We are delighted to announce that Arcadian Library Online has won the prestigious 2018 PROSE Awards’ R.R. Hawkins Award for excellence in scholarly publishing; Bloomsbury Content Services provided the end-to-end digitisation and content transformation services and digital archive platform.
Arcadian Library Online beat 550 other entries to win the industry’s top honour, after first winning the E-product category and then Excellence in Reference Works. This is the first time the award was given to a digital product.
The Association of American Publishers’ annual PROSE Awards recognise the very best in professional and scholarly publishing by bringing attention to distinguished books, journals, and electronic content in over 50 categories. It has been judged by peer publishers, librarians, academics and medical professionals since 1976.
Nigel Fletcher-Jones PhD, Director, The American University in Cairo Press and Co-Chair of the 2018 PROSE Awards said:
“Arcadian Library Online…is superbly designed to fulfil the deeply worthy and opportune mission of the library to explain part of the intellectual debt that the West owes to the Islamic world, and, as we result is a thoroughly worthy winner of the 2018 R.R. Hawkins Award.”
What is Arcadian Library Online?
The Arcadian Library is an exceptional, privately owned library, which documents the shared cultural heritage of Europe and the Middle East. It contains rare ancient manuscripts, early books and incunabula, documents, maps and printed books, spanning a millennium. Its holdings range from the early years of Islam, through the end of the Ottoman Empire, to the second half of the 20th century.
We worked with the Arcadian Library to digitise their entire history of medicine collection and host it on this award-winning digital archive platform.
Searchable in either English or Arabic, the Arcadian Library Online platform now enables institutions and individuals to gain access to the riches in this important collection.
